“I am a working mother of 2 and I have very little time to get ready in the morning. Can you suggest a minimal effort, but nice-looking makeup routine that I can achieve in 5 minutes?”
Hello Melly. What a great question.
Between working and raising a family, I’m sure you have little time to even think about makeup (or beauty of any sort, for that matter). So, I put myself to task and did the thinking for you. Below you will find a routine that you can do in 5 minutes or less. The steps may be quick and easy, but they do not compromise the final outcome.
Here goes…
First, brush a tinted moisturizer over your face. This will even out your skin, hide the dark circles and give your skin an overall smooth and pulled together look. I love the tinted moisturizers by Cover FX. In addition to sunscreen, they add a touch of bronzer and the slightest hint of shimmer, so the skin just seems to glow. I also recommend those by Make Up For Ever and Laura Mercier. You can brush them on in under 60 seconds.
The second step is bronzer. This is the pivotal ingredient to having the glow of healthy skin. With a fluffy brush add color to the high points of your face (all the areas the sun would touch): forehead, cheeks, bridge of the nose and chin. Then, with a smaller brush, dust the bronzer over your eyelids. This will add just enough color to add a pop to the eyes. This step will take 45 seconds at the most.
The third step is lip and cheek stain. A dewy flush to the cheek will keep you looking healthy and sexy all day long. Buff it right into your cheek so it looks like the color is blooming up from underneath your cheeks. Using the same stain on your lips will give you the right kiss of color that will last all day long. Try Vincent Longo Lip and Cheek Gel Stain, Benefit Benetint, or Sephora’s Lush Flush Wine Lip & Cheek Stain. This step will take just 45 seconds.
Last but not least, mascara. This step will add depth to the eyes. By darkening, thickening and lengthening the lashes, you will accentuate and open the eyes. I am a big fan of Sephora Brand and Fiberwig. This step will take 30 seconds. (Remember ladies, if you have dark circles, upper lashes only.)
Try these steps. I promise they will leave you looking (and feeling) beautiful. And, after a time or two, you will have this routine down to 3 minutes and fifteen seconds (maybe even less, being a working mom you are no stranger to speed and efficiency).
I am so glad that you posed this question. It is one that I think will benefit millions of American women who are in the same position you are.
TIP: Apply the tinted moisturizer (or any other foundation product you use) with a foundation brush. This is very important for several reasons. First, your fingers will waste the product. Fingers are to makeup like cookies are to the cookie monster. Being dry and full of crevices, they will gobble every bit of it up, wasting product and money. Second, the application will be much smoother. Brushes lay the product where it is needed for a perfect, even application. Choose a good synthetic brush and it will last you a lifetime.
