The other day, while doing my usual avoidance ritual of being the mayor in deadline town, I got to thinking about some very important issues: What is the etymology of kismet; are aliens actually humans in the future that mastered time travel; and do people really get all duded up when they are at home alone a-la the tv shows?
My pal Emilia Diamante has been known to organize her v. fashion-able closets while wearing the latest purchase and a fresh off the sample-room floor cardi. And our v.v. fash-y friend SandraE wears heels like a postman delivers mail—neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night—precludes her from standing tall. She even wears high-heeled shoes to the beach!
Now, as you regular readers of this blog could
probably suppose, I am not among those who wear a ball gown to take out the garbage. Instead I have my outside clothes and my inside clothes. I like to kick back at home in my relax equipment; no fancy pants here. Et vous?

Happy New Year’s Eve!
Ostensibly, we’re celebrating the start of a new year. But tonight is also makeup’s equivalent to the Boston Marathon. You’ll be doing your face at 4 or 5 pm, and expecting your look to last clear until midnight (if not longer). Bonus round obstacle courses include one too many toasts, lipstick-erasing smooches at midnight, and a potentially sweaty round of body movin’ on the dance floor.
Makeup’s equivalent of an energy drink?
MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Mist & Fix. One squirt from this, and it sets your makeup for hours and hours, even under extreme conditions. And it doesn’t get more extreme than the border between 2008 and 2009.

Thank Beauty & The Blog’s resident mythologist, Dax, for teaching us
why wild roses are so important to Greek culture.
Dax, you had me at Aphrodite.
However, if it takes more than a good story to get you hooked on a product, a better reason to love Greek beauty brand
Korres’ wild rose
skincare line is because this rosy ingredient really is almost mythically magical. It naturally boosts cell regeneration and repair, and is packed with skin-brightening vitamin C. And, thanks to high levels of linoleic and linolenic acids, it’s an excellent moisturizer, too.
If you love the idea of that powerhouse fleur in your skincare, now imagine it being added to
eyeshadow, foundation and lipstick. Same skincare benefits, same natural ingredients, same paraben/sulfate/phthalate - free formulas; only this time, it’s a bouquet of roses in the makeup you’ll wear all day. Clever work, Korres.
Isn’t it time your makeup worked as hard as your moisturizers, anyway?

What I have in common with people from Las Vegas:
- Anyone can be fun to watch with the right amount of wind machines and pyrotechnics
- Sometimes the answer to the all-u-can-eat buffet is, ‘Yes”
- Aging: Over it
The Las Vegas Examiner published an article on products that stop aging. Practical advice may not jive with the whole Sin City reputation, but when there are wrinkles on the line, all rules are null and void. Take a peek at the highlights:
Prevent Wrinkles
While you can’t turn back the hands of time, you can slow down the formation of wrinkles with a proper face care. Bliss’ new The Youth As We Know It cream uses peptides and hydrators to help reduce wrinkles while exfoliating your skin and regenerating collagen and elastin.
Prevent Sun Damage
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, Las Vegans are at risk of sun damage. Daily application of an sunscreen with at least an SPF 30 can help save your face from the hazards of immediate and long-term sun exposure. Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream SPF 30 lets you stay in the sun longer. Just remember to reapply if you plan to be in the sun for longer than two hours.
Prevent Age Spots
Anything from the sun and hormone changes to medications and acne can cause dark spots. Fade them
away with DDF Fade Gel 4, which uses hydroquinine and kojic acid to erase hyperpigmentation. Don’t be afraid when the dark spots initially get darker; the skin will slough off over time and reveal the lighter skin underneath.
Prevent Dry Lips
You may have perfect teeth, and they deserve to be framed by the perfect smile. Cosmedicine Full Benefits Lip Plumper, Hydrator & Exfoliator reduces the roughness, dryness and cracking on your lips to make lips look fuller and smoother. Even lip lines look smoother.
