Just when we thought this mascara couldn’t get cooler … Givenchy’s just-out Phenomen’eyes Mascara already had the beauty industry buzzing, and last night, it wooed the art world, too. The Christopher Henry Gallery exhibit: 5,045 of the itty-bitty mascara wands—which are spherical, to really get at lash roots—formed into a huge, larger-than-life record! Ian Wright, the world-renowned artist who created it, says it took him 14 days to complete, and that it was a true go-with-the-flow artistic endeavor. “It was a bit of an unbelievable process,” he said (in his cool British accent). “I usually spent 10-hour days in the studio, and a lot of it was about working things out as I went along; seeing what worked and what didn’t.” We’re talking sketching, re-sketching, drilling, hammering, painting—one studio, one man, thousands of mascaras. The finished product? A gorgeous piece of work; one symbolizing the remix of a fashion-inspired beauty collection, now married with art. Givenchy had a film crew on hand for Ian’s project, so you can watch the beauty-full art in the making soon. Stay tuned!
