Aphrodite: The most beautiful goddess in Greek legend, this sea-foam-born goddess (or daughter of Zeus and Dione) is the goddess of beauty, love, romance, and passion. Erotic, free, and playful—Aphrodite is bound by no social mores, is compassionate yet quick to punish those who incur her wrath, and is simply and absolutely breathtaking. In fact Aphrodite was so powerful in the ways of love, even Hera, a remarkable beauty herself and Queen of Olympus, once borrowed Aphrodite’s magical girdle to gain the attention of Zeus.
Gorgeous beyond mortal or immortal measure, Aphrodite holds dear a multitude of plants and animals associated with love and passion, including the dove, sparrow, swan, clam shell, pearl, rose, anemone, and myrtle. Here is a list of Aphrodite-inspired products that will unleash the love goddess in you:
Sephora by OPI Nail Colour in Three Way Mirror, Le Beau, Curve-aceous, Beauty Junkie, and A True Romantic
As would be expected from the most beautiful goddess, Aphrodite is often depicted with a looking glass, or mirror, in ancient art. Get the love-goddess look with Sephora by OPI’s Nail Colour in Three Way Mirror and other shades that reflect beauty, passion, and romance…all the sacred honors of Aphrodite.
PlantLove™ by Cargo Eye Shadow in Dove, Sparrow, and Swan
The white dove, the bird of love, and the sparrow were so sacred to Aphrodite that a team of these beautiful creatures pulled her chariot across the sky. When the mood would strike her, she would choose to ride on the back of an elegant swan instead. Cargo has three beautiful shades for true love-bird appeal.
Clinique Superlift Makeup in Shell
According to some ancient writers and artists, Aphrodite arose from the foamy sea on a clam shell. And thanks to Botticelli’s famous painting, The Birth of Venus, the clam shell is one of Aphrodite’s most recognizable symbols—representing beauty, femininity, and allure. Clinique has captured beauty in a bottle with their breathable, long-lasting makeup in Shell.
Calvin Klein Delicious Luxury Crème Lipstick in Venus, Eros, Clear Rose, Rose Berry, and Tender Rose
Some say that when Aphrodite arose from the sea, she was already pregnant with the love god, Eros (Cupid). This beautiful, young, winged god’s arrows sting the heart and cause couples to madly fall in love. Play cupid on yourself with these Crème Lipsticks from Calvin Klein in shades representing the goddess, her son, and her fave flower, the rose.

Acqua Di Parma Blu Mediterraneo - Mirto Di Panarea Eau de ToiletteDue to an unlawful pregnancy, the princess of Cyprus, Smyrna, had been condemned to die. But the gods felt pity and transformed her into the first myrtle tree. Nine months later, the tree split open and Adonis, Aphrodite’s lover, was born . . . making the myrtle forever Aphrodite’s favorite tree. Acqua Di Parma’s Mirto Di Panerea eau de toilette captures the essence of the Mediterranean and the love goddess with notes of her favorite tree and flower, the myrtle and the rose.

Korres Natural Products Wild Rose Hydrating & Brightening Collection
Unlike Aphrodite and her Olympian kin, we mere mortals do not have the benefit of ambrosia and nectar to keep us young and beautiful. But Korres, like the Oracle of Delphi, has the answer to this ancient riddle with their Hydrating & Brightening collection that contains one of Aphrodite’s most sacred flowers, the wild rose—which has potent antiaging and skin-healing properties.
*Find out why the Wild Rose is so important to both Aphrodite and your skin here: Wild Roses Are Red.
Thank Beauty & The Blog’s resident mythologist, Dax, for teaching us why wild roses are so important to Greek culture. Dax, you had me at Aphrodite. What I have in common with people from Las Vegas:
The Las Vegas Examiner published an article on products that stop aging. Practical advice may not jive with the whole Sin City reputation, but when there are wrinkles on the line, all rules are null and void. Take a peek at the highlights:
Prevent Wrinkles
While you can’t turn back the hands of time, you can slow down the formation of wrinkles with a proper face care. Bliss’ new The Youth As We Know It cream uses peptides and hydrators to help reduce wrinkles while exfoliating your skin and regenerating collagen and elastin.
Prevent Sun Damage
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, Las Vegans are at risk of sun damage. Daily application of an sunscreen with at least an SPF 30 can help save your face from the hazards of immediate and long-term sun exposure. Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream SPF 30 lets you stay in the sun longer. Just remember to reapply if you plan to be in the sun for longer than two hours.
Prevent Age Spots
Anything from the sun and hormone changes to medications and acne can cause dark spots. Fade them
away with DDF Fade Gel 4, which uses hydroquinine and kojic acid to erase hyperpigmentation. Don’t be afraid when the dark spots initially get darker; the skin will slough off over time and reveal the lighter skin underneath.
Prevent Dry Lips
You may have perfect teeth, and they deserve to be framed by the perfect smile. Cosmedicine Full Benefits Lip Plumper, Hydrator & Exfoliator reduces the roughness, dryness and cracking on your lips to make lips look fuller and smoother. Even lip lines look smoother.
Louise Emma Clarke, founding editor of beauty website The-Beauty-Pages.com, writes about her thoughts on a recent list of the most iconic fragrances of all time for Cult Beauty:
Superdrug has just released a list of the ten most iconic perfumes of all time, with half of those listed available at – you guessed it – Superdrug. I might be a little skeptical about some of the choices (Victoria Beckham’s Intimately Her somehow scrapes in at number 10, for example) but there’s no dispute about the top spot: Chanel No.5. For Marilyn, the scent might’ve been about sensual silk sheets and little else, but it has a very different resonance for me. One sniff and I’m taken back to my childhood, with the rich jasmine scent drifting towards the back seat of the car as my mother spritzed the perfume onto each wrist before we headed into church on a Sunday morning. If I catch merely a hint of the scent as a stranger brushes past, I think of her. For me, the fragrance is glamorous, opulent and ultra-feminine.
And now, 87 years after its 1921 launch, Chanel has created a sister scent to No.5 – Eau Premiére, £67 for 75ml (0207 4933836). The scent retains the charm of the original, but is slightly lighter, fresher and, in my opinion, far younger. Think the opulence of The Ritz dining room compared to achingly-chic Nobu… a sip of vintage Moët compared to a champagne cocktail… a pair of classic Prada slingbacks compared to a bejeweled pair of Jimmy Choo’s. I urge you to go out there and try it.
The Ten Most Iconic Perfumes of All Time (according to Superdrug):
1. Chanel No 5 (£43, 50ml)
2. Calvin Klein CK1 (Superdrug £14.99, 50ml)
3. Calvin Klein Eternity (Superdrug £19.99, 30ml)
4. Chanel Coco (£39, 35ml)
5. Dior Poison (£39, 30ml)
6. Ghost (Superdrug £19.99, 30ml)
7. Cacharel Anais Anais (Superdrug £12.95, 30ml)
8. Lacoste Pink (Superdrug £17.99, 30ml)
9. Yves Saint Laurent Opium (£44.99, 50ml)
10. Beckham Intimately Her (Superdrug £15, 50ml)
